This morning, the Obama transition team leaked that Obama was considering naming Rep. Mike Thompson (D. Ca) as his secretary of interior "because he is a hunter." Thompson is not only a hunter, but an charter member of the National Rifle Association, which spent $30 to defeat Obama, albeit unsuccessfully. He is also a charter member of the Safari Club International (SCI), the despicable organization that travels the world killing animals for fund, sport and their heads. He was also named SCI's Legislator of the Year recently.
that uses Obama said he intends to run his administration from the grassroots up. If that is true, please write to Obama now at his web site www.change.gov and plead with him to not appoint Thompson as secretary of interior. Plead with him to appoint Rep. Grijalva (D. Arizona) who is known for his balanced approach to environmental and animal matters. Obama said he needs a hunter at the department of interior. Tell him that hunters are only 10 percent of the population that uses public lands, and so we do not need a hunter there, and certainly not a hunter like Thompson. Click here to go directly to contact page at www.change.gov.
Please take action today as it may soon be too late, and we we no longer be able to believe in the change we were promised.
Thank you.
Here is a message you can send to the Obama Transition Team at the above site:
Dear Obama Transation Team:
I was shocked to read today that Obama is considering naming Rep. Mike Thompson (D. Ca.) as his Secretary of the Interior. Mike Thompson is supported by the National Rifle Association, an organization that spent $30 million to defeat Obama, albeit unsuccessfully, thank God. Mike Thompson is an active member of the Safari Club International, the organization that travels the world killing rare and endangered animals for fun, sport and their heads , and that named Thompson Legislator of the Year recently.
Obama was elected partially by the millions who flocked to him solely to defeat Sen. McCain because of Gov. Palin's dishonorable record in killing animals in Alaska. Now, Obama wants to name as his interior secretary someone with a more despicable record than Palin's?
Matthew Scully wrote Palin's brilliant acceptance speech at the convention. Please have someone read chapter two of Scully's other famous work, his book, Dominion, to see if Obama wants to pal around with someone of Thompson's pathetic lack of compassion.
Obama does not need a hunter in interior when 90 percent of the people who use public lands are not hunters. He needs a person of compassion, and Thompson does not qualify.
Obama has been accused already of pandering to the right. If he appoints Thompson, he would be moving not to the right, but to the wrong.
Thank you.
And here is a letter I sent to the Washington Post of this subject today:
Letter to Editor, Washington Post
Dear Editor:
I wonder if other compassionate readers were as incensed as I was when I read in this morning's Post that President-Elect Obama is considering naming Rep. Mike Thompson (D, Ca.) as his Secretary of the Interior.
Isn’t Mike Thompson the same person who is supported by the National Rifle Association, an organization that spent $30 million to defeat Obama, albeit unsuccessfully.
Isn’t Mike Thompson the same person who is a member of the Safari Club International, an organization that travels the world killing rare and endangered animals for fun, sport and their heads?
Isn’t Mike Thompson the same person whom the Safari Club International named Legislator of the Year not too long ago?
Obama's job to get elected was made difficult on August 29th when Sen. John McCain named Alaska Gov. Sarah Plain as his running mate. Millions then flocked to Obama's side, including myself, with their vote and money to defeat McCain simply because of Palin's dishonorable record in killing animals in Alaska, especially wolves and bears by air. Now, Obama wants to name as his interior secretary someone with a more despicable record than Palin's?
Matthew Scully, a former speechwriter for President Bush, was the person one who crafted Palin's brilliant debut speech and then acceptance speech at the Republican convention. I think I speak for millions of Obama's supporters when I plead with his transition team to read chapter two of Scully's other famous work, his book, Dominion, The Power of Man, The Suffering of Animals, and The Call to Mercy. In that chapter, Sully minces no words in laying out exactly how compassionate members of the Safari Club really are.
Obama is quoted as having said he needs a hunter as secretary of interior. No, he does not need a hunter in that job, when 90 percent of the people who use public lands are not hunters. He needs a person of compassion toward animals, the environment and people, and Thompson does not qualify.
Obama has been accused already pandering to the right, even before he is sworn in. If he appoints Thompson, he would be moving not to the right, but to the wrong.
